Patachitra or Hand painted scrolls were made for ritual use or souvenirs for pilgrims during ancient times. Now they are a visual storytelling tool that is as varied as its presence in different geographies of the erstwhile bengal Province.
The sheer number of designs, sizes and subject matter of these scrolls or pots is mind-boggling. The size of the scrolls ranges from a few square inches to a few square metres!
